Knitting in Birmingham

Artist Bill Drummond has begun a 12 year long knitting project, The Million Stitch Blanket.

According to Drummond’s school teacher, Mrs Gilchrist, knitting was invented in Birmingham; now whether you believe Mrs Gilchrist or not the artist has started an ambitious knitting project, to create a blanket of a million stitches. The Million Stitch Blanket will be a collaborative venture as he asks the people he will meet on his 12 year journey with another exhibition, 25 Paintings, to help by either knitting a stitch or a row or even a square.
