‘The module helped me to explore Loughborough more and meet more local people.’
A collaboration between Loughborough’s first-year Textile Students, Charnwood Arts’ Jemma Bagley and PhD researcher Sarah Green. Making Histories features contemporary textile designs inspired by the industrial and social history of the Loughborough area. The exhibition is the third annual event in this collaborative project and represents the majority of first-year Textiles students.
‘Liked that the making history pushed us to produce really refined gallery pieces.’
This year’s brief invited students to respond to Loughborough, the surrounding area and its rich heritage in UK textile production, along with other industries such as bell founding, shoe manufacture and the Great Central Railway.
The exhibition, which was situated in Charnwood Museum, contained sketchbooks and test samples as well as final samples. The students also provided a statement explaining their inspiration and describing their design decisions.
